Many applications will require volumes of liquid to be transferred from narrow sample containers that can be difficult to reach with a standard transfer pipette. Micro Pastettes have a long straight stem that enables easy access into the base of narrow necked vessels, such as cuvettes and auto-analyser sample cups. They can also be heat sealed for use as a storage container or as portable ampoules. The Micro range has expanded over the years to support users with their application needs. These included different bulb sizes and stem lengths to suit the multiple applications that these pipettes can be used for. High quality manufacturing and materials has remained throughout the expansion of the Pastette® range and the soft controllable bulb remains a unique feature to assist the user with pipetting control and performance. Micro Pastette® – Easy Liquid Transfer for Narrow Tubes Standard and Large Bulb Micro for reaching into narrow tubes where larger volumes and drop sizes are important. › Loading gels › PCR work › Dropwise additions to culture plates › Protein assays › Lipid extractions › Careful separation of supernatant in centrifuge tubes Short Stem and Short Stem Ultra Micro ideal for working with small volumes. › Blood sedimentation Ultra Micro ideal for working with small volumes. › Removing and separating serum and blood › Plasma separation during blood chemistry analysis › Transfer in and out of multiwall plates 12 www.alphalabs.co.uk  sales@alphalabs.co.uk  0800 387732

Anti Iba1, Rabbit (for Immunocytochemistry) Anti Iba1, Rabbit, SPICA Dye™ 594-conjugated Anti Iba1, Rabbit, Red Fluorochrome 635-conjugated 16 www.alphalabs.co.uk  sales@alphalabs.co.uk  0800 387732 Microglia play a key role in axonal growth, synaptic remodelling, and neuronal survival via phagocytosis of cellular debris. Additionally, microglia are the primary source of proinflammatory cytokines, under stress conditions. Ionized calcium binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba1) is up regulated in active microglia and binds to F-actin in cells to form actin bundles; this is required for membrane ruffling that occurs during cell phagocytosis by activated microglia. Specifically expressed in microglia, Iba1 is upregulated during cell activation and often used as a microglial marker in immunohistochemistry. Studies by Lituma PJ et al showed Iba1 deficient mice display strong, persistent synaptic deficits in the CA1 hippocampus, as well as behavioural alterations, concluding that Iba1 plays an important role in synaptic formation in the juvenile brain. Microglia are key mediators of neuroinflammation, heavily involved in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. Sterility does not necessarily imply free of pyrogens; testing is essential to detect pyrogenic contamination. Limulus Amoebocyte Lysate (LAL) assays using the LAL clotting principle from the Atlantic horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) are used for the high sensitivity and specificity detection of endotoxin. FUJIFILM Wako offer assays for the 3 endotoxin detection methodologies for research and manufacturing applications: › Gel Clot Assay (GCA) › Kinetic Turbidimetric Assay (KTA) › Kinetic Colorimetric Assay (KCA) Endotoxin specific LAL reagent reaction cascade mechanism Test to Ensure Pyrogen & Endotoxin Free The absence of Factor G in the Wako reagent eliminates interference due to the reaction with BDG, enabling improved specificity, preventing false positive results for endotoxin.

NEW 20 www.alphalabs.co.uk  sales@alphalabs.co.uk  0800 387732 Human blood is a treasure trove of genetic information, hosting crucial details within circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and cellfree RNA (cfRNA). Leveraging the simplicity of a blood draw, liquid biopsy emerges as a powerful tool, unravelling insights from cancer predisposition to the aftermath of traumatic brain injuries. The Crucial Role of Draw-Time Analysis In the realm of liquid biopsy, timing is everything. Diseases linked to elevated circulating cfDNA and cfRNA demand precise analysis, necessitating a choice: immediate evaluation or the adoption of a stabilisation tube. Stabilising blood samples, ensures an accurate reflection of what is in the patient’s circulation. Without stabilisation, samples deteriorate, releasing genomic DNA (gDNA), extracellular vesicles (EVs), and EV-associated cfRNA due to white and red blood cell breakdown. This degradation introduces non-specific increases in analytes, clouding the original sample’s analysis. Introducing Nucleic Acid BCT While traditional storage methods, like EDTA tubes, offer brief sample integrity, they fall short in long-term room temperature storage. The new Nucleic Acid BCT™, is a game-changer in preserving nucleic acid concentrations, maintaining analyte levels at draw-time concentrations of cell-free DNA, cell-free RNA and extracellular vesicles for up to 7 days at room temperature. This empowers laboratories to shift focus from degradation concerns to data analysis. The advantages extend far beyond precise data. Nucleic Acid BCT liberates laboratories from cold storage constraints, slashing shipping and handling costs. Ideal for groups relying on off-site laboratories, it extends storage time without compromising analysis. Moreover, it amplifies laboratory efficiency, allowing batches of samples to be processed weekly, contrasting with the immediate attention demanded by traditional tubes. Confidence Beyond Blood: Streck’s Stabilisation Portfolio Streck’s patented stabilisation products, including Nucleic Acid BCT, redefine confidence in findings without the pressure of immediate analysis. But the revolution doesn’t halt at blood. Streck Urine Preserve® and Streck Cell Preservative® extend the ease of handling to urine and body fluid samples, offering room temperature storage, cold chain-free shipping, and batch processing. Revolutionising Liquid Biopsy: The Unveiling of Nucleic Acid BCT Tubes

NEW 22 www.alphalabs.co.uk  sales@alphalabs.co.uk  0800 387732 Accelerating the Decentralisation of Clinical Trials Novel to the UK market, Tasso+ redefines capillary blood collection, enhancing the viability of at home sampling in research. Tasso+ is a single-use, patient centric, micro sampling device, enabling lay users to sample clinical grade, standardised blood samples from the comfort and convenience of their home. A prominent challenge faced by research is the recruitment and retention of participants throughout the entirety of the clinical trial. Low participation reduces statistical power, restricting the potential significance of findings. Many pertinent factors influencing retention can be mitigated simply by allowing participants to sample at home. Enhancing the convenience of blood sampling reduces the influence of financial barriers on participation, whilst the intuitive patient centric design of Tasso+ diminishes the impact of anxiety and fear on study engagement. Furthermore, home sampling can reduce participant enrolment biases, enabling the research of understudied or underrepresented populations. Home testing expands the potential pool of participants, increasing the size and diversity of available individuals. This effects the generalisability of research findings from clinical trials, providing results more meaningful to a diverse populus. Introducing Tasso+ A User-friendly Whole Capillary Blood Sampling Device
